What Owen's been up to...

Sitting in a shopping cart for the first time,

Playing in the hamper,

Driving the car,

waiting for uncle Layton at the airport,

and spending lots and lots of time with Layton!!

He's home, and he's amazing!! It has been so fun, it seems like all I've done is follow him around since he's been here. Owen LOVES him, he is such a cute uncle!! The Sunday afternoons at my parent's house finally feel complete again, and he has brought such a happy uplifting spirit with him. For the first time in my life, I feel like my younger brother is so much older and wiser than me.

Much too much

Here's my mom's favorite commercial. For me I think it's a close runner up to the master card boys dancing. Pay particular attention to the dad's bum at the end...and all of his mannerisms. It's pretty cute!

SLEEP

This book has given me a whole new world!! I got a new person to visit teach, which i now know was inspired for the well being of me and my family. We were talking about our babies and their routine (or the lack there of in my case) and she let me borrow this book. It has worked wonders. We had to go through some rough and sad nights, of letting Owen cry it out, but after four of them he caught on. He can now put himself to sleep and doesn't need to be fed during the night. Man i wish i would have read this months ago. No more baby up til ten o clock, no more wondering when his naps will be, no more bouncing him in a dark bathroom with the fan on for twenty minutes, no more getting up in the night making bottles. Now we wake up to each other feeling rested, energized and happy. Isn't it amazing how much you love your child when he's asleep??? Let's just hope we can keep it up...I'm scared of regression.

I can NOT wait!!!

My brother Elder Layton Gregory Bell, will get home from the Houston Texas East mission in 16 days!! I can not wait to hug him, I can not wait to talk to him, I can not wait to laugh with him, but mostly I can not wait for him to meet my son!!!!!! It's going to be a long two weeks.
(We both look a little nervous and sad in this picture - the night before he left)

Weekend

This weekend was so nice! The three of us spent a lot of much needed time together.
Friday- Treavor took the day off so we could go to the Draper temple for the dedication. It was really neat to be there. After that we went to dinner with Treavor's family for his sister Tiffany's birthday.
Saturday- I didn't have to go to class because of spring break (Woo Hoo!!) we relaxed and played all day, and then went to the adult session of stake conference with Elder Hales presiding. It was so good. We came away with many new goals and ways to improve our lives.
Sunday- Another session of Stake conference and a lot of time at my parents house. Owen loved being with cousin Kinnie. She takes such good care of him.

Quotes from the weekend:
Treavor: (referring to a sales job) "There's just such a stigmatism attached....I mean stigma"
Sara: "Is it time for Owen's nebulator?" (He's on a nebulizer every 4 hours to clear out his lungs)
I guess we both need a little more sleep.
Treavor :(while riding in the car with his parents) "Mom you're a little nuts, and I like that about you." Doesn't that just sum up every son's perception of his mother? I already feel like Owen thinks I'm a little nuts, and i hope he likes that about me.

Owen's new trick: Sitting up for long periods of time. It's so fun to watch him learn and grow every single day. Every time I sit him up it takes a longer time to fall down than the last.

Road to Recovery

Owen has been sick! he had a little RSV virus, and a sore throat and then developed ear infections in both ears, with teething on top of that. He's been a sad boy with a sad mom. I never knew that a sick baby would make me so exhausted, dirty and cranky. He's finally getting better! All the bad symptoms are gone. Today we're just dealing with a lot of congestion, so he cant breath through his nose, so he can't suck his Binky, so he can't go to sleep, so he gets really delirious and mad and cries REALLY hard. Other than those tired mad moments, we have our happy boy back. Now I have some recovering to do. I'm sure all you moms reading this with multiple children are thinking how easy, breasy your life would be, if you simply had to take care of one single sick infant...but it has worn on me!!
On a happy note:
He had his six month photo shoot with his personal photographer Grandma Kat (who might have to do a little touch up to the big scratch on the nose) here are a few of my favorites. Thanks Kathryn!!

check up

We're looking forward to Owen's 6 month check up in the next couple of weeks. Here are some comments we have received from various nurses and Dr.s at Alpine Pediatric Clinic (it seems like we've spent a lot of time there for sick and well check ups).

*All said with a small smirk, giant grin, little chuckle or full on laugh

  • wow! He's really deprived isn't he?
  • Yay, I love the chubby babies
  • This shot shouldn't hurt, you have so much padding in your thighs
  • It looks like he has a yeast infection in his thigh creases
  • There might also be some in his neck rolls
  • If you were nursing, I would tell you to sell that milk on ebay
  • 95 percentile
  • His appetite isn't as big as usual? Well you obviously don't have to worry about him getting enough.
  • I'm really excited to put him on the scale
  • look at all those creases in his ankles
  • Is he eating you out of house and home?
  • It looks like he might be grown out of his infant car seat by next visit
  • 19.5 pounds
  • He is THRIVING!
We'll let you know how this visit goes :)
