Weekend

They're still here! The emotions, that is. I've already written about how I feel a little crazy during pregnancy. Nothing's changed. In fact the closer to having the baby I get, the closer to the surface the emotions are. Like most things in life happen for a reason, this weekend I was able to come to a realization that there are good reasons we women are so sensitive at certain times in our life. We had a wonderfully uplifting weekend at Stake conference. I only made it to the adult session and a fabulous youth fireside, and Treavor came home with great notes for me from the actual session. It was another tearful weekend, this time 99% happy tears. The veil is particularly thin during pregnancy don't you think? I learned the past couple of days that this possibly is one of the reasons we are created to feel so deeply as women. I think we are meant to feel the magnitude and depth of the huge blessing it is to bring a spirit into this beautiful world. I was overcome with the miracle of birth, life, creation and the calling of motherhood.
We sang I Need Thee Every Hour, a song that's always been a favorite of mine, but had even more meaning to me. I love the line that says "...in joy or in pain, come quickly and abide or life is vain." my mortal life of course has it's trials and hardships, but over all is exceptionally happy. So much, that often times I wonder if I'm a wimp and can only handle teeny tiny stresses. I love this hymn because it reminds me how much I need the Lord, even (and especially) when life is particularly joyful.
So the next time I get frustrated that I break down in tears when a neighbor says Owen will be a good big brother, or I snap at my husband for not much of a reason at all, or I'm losing patience with my innocent toddler, I will be grateful for all the good (like sensitivity to the spirit, and an extra closeness to the Lord) these crazy emotions bring.

Owie had a pretty fulfilling weekend as well:
Playing outside pant-less

feeling pretty cool in some shades

And who-da-thunk dog food could provide hours of entertainment
Every day?!
I'm not complaining.

Stop

A few weeks ago, Owen began to recognize stop signs. He would mention the ones he saw out his window and talk about how we need to stop and wait for cars. Well, ironically, the other day I got pulled over and ticketed for not coming to a complete stop at a sign by our house. After being questioned by my little backseat driver as to what the police officer was talking about, I had to explain that I didn't stop, and that I need to do better next time. As we continued on our errands, we came to another stop sign. Owen said louder and with more gusto than he usually had "stop mom stop!" After I did, I looked back at him. His hands were in the air and he was saying "you did it mommy! You did it!" He reminds me to stop every time we're in the car and won't let me forget about my misdemeanor by asking daily "what that police officer say to you?"
I'm glad he gets so proud of me when I obey the laws of the land, but i'm beginning to feel a little patronized by my two year old.

Life

Is Good.

Here's why:
  • We had a fun, spontaneous, much welcomed and way too quick visit from Landon and Nicole. I miss them like crazy, and don't really believe siblings should live far away from each other. Kinnie is older and sweet, and full of life! Andrew is mellow, cuddly and plain irresistible. Owen can't get enough of his cousins, and we're already waiting for their next visit.
  • We had a weekend of anniversary celebration. You know how I feel about date night, and I am 100% revamped, renewed, and re-energized!! Grandma took Owen for a whole 24 hours while Treavor and I enjoyed two movies, that's right 2 (in the theater)!! I don't usually like that, but my pregnant, non-moving body was quite content to sit in a theater with out a worry in the world and lots of food in my lap. We went to dinner, slept in took some tums and talked about our happy and blessed five years.
  • Spring is on it's way. I know it's wet and cold and snowy, but birds are chirping and the sun is shining, and the air is crisp instead of smoggy. That gives me hope.
  • Owie is thriving, and making me happy every day with his strong imagination and love for life.
He started a little music class with a neighbor. He was nervous about going, and cried a little when I dropped him off, but came home so proud of himself and feeling quite old. There's really nothing like watching your kids do something that makes them proud is there?

He loves music, asks to listen to music a lot and impresses me with all the words he knows. The other day I turned on a play list that I don't often listen to. When free fallin came on (a song he's heard just a handful of times), He asked "what's this song called about?" I said "it's about a girl" and he said "oh she loves horses".

He often says "Alexander and the terrible horrible no-good very bad day!" it's usually after something drops or breaks, or I tell him to stop doing something. I think to him it means Darn or shoot.

His latest obsessions are playing with "guys" (his small collection of action figures). reading library books, putting his boots on by himself, interrupting any and all conversations Treavor and I are having by saying "what are you talking about?" , tackling with his stuffed animals, and discovering what kind of limits he can push with his parents.
