Owen has asthma. Kind of a bummer, but it's nice to finally know why he has been wheezy, congested and coughing a large portion of his seven month life. After the Dr. told me a few different ways to treat it, and explained that oral steroids are the least safe, she checked his oxygen level again and said he would need to be on oral steroids because he was at a 91 (they send you to the hospital below 90). If any of you have asthma or children with asthma I would love your opinions on steroids through a nebulizer, oral steroids, Albuterol through a nebulizer etc. Did you use these all the time? or just when it flared up? I learned that eczema, alergies and asthma are all related, and it looks like he has all three. I would love your advice. Really all I know about asthma is that there was a goofy kid in my third grade class who wouldn't participate in any of the P.E. activities because of it. Let's hope Owen isn't that goofy kid someday:)

Oh, I'm so sorry! Travis and Kim's kids had asthma. They eventually got better though. I am sure Kim could help you alot!
Wow, Sara! I'm going to be taking Jack back to the Dr. for some tests cuz I'm worried he's showing symptoms of asthma. Sounds like there is a lot of info to learn about. I'm sure though that as he gets older he'll grow out of it. He doesn't look the least bit worried about it though! He really is a champ!
I wish I could give you some advice, but I have no clue when it comes to asthma! I'm sorry he has it but I hope you can get it figured out and under control. He is such a stud!
I have heard that RSV kind of ties to asthma, so I've been watching Trevor really close. Let me know what you find out. I'm sorry to hear about Owen, but is nice to finally know what's going on! His picture standing up on your couch makes me laugh!
Wow, Sara. That is a bummer. I hate asthma!
Yes, for several years 3 of my 4 kids (at the time) had illness-induced asthma. It was very confusing working with pediatricians for anything related to asthma. The best advice I can give to you is to have him treated for any and all breathing issues by an asthma specialist. If you want the name of the one we went to, let me know.
The good news is--all my kids grew out of it. Hopefully Owen will too!!!
That picture is DARLING! I'm sorry you're all having to deal with this. Abby has asthma, but we didn't know until a few years ago and it's really pretty mild. I'm hoping it's the kind she'll outgrow like Brennan and several of my brothers did. I am nowhere near as informed as you are, she just uses an inhaler every 4 hours mostly at night or when she's going to be super active. Sounds like you've got a thorough doctor and already know a lot which is great. Good luck!
ohhh shut Sara. That's a bummer. I wish I knew more about asthma & had some advice. I'll be thinking about you guys...he sure is a handsome dude. I love his pants. haha. I love boys don't you? They are so fun. At first I really wanted to have a girl because I liked the girl clothes, but I think I actually like boy clothes better :) Next time we're in town...let's get together! I think it'll be in May..I let you know!! Hopefully the asthma is temporary, or at least gets better...poor guy :(
I am sorry that he has asthma. It is so difficult to see your children struggle. Hopefully this will help him now that you have figured out what is going on. I loved the cute picts of Owen. He has grown a lot since the last time we hung out! He's is so dang cute!
He is taking the news like a stud!! I hope you are doing okay. You are so funny. I am worried about Bodie having allergies cuz he has been sneezing and coughing for a while now. Good luck, I hope you find something that works!
I am so glad that his cough and wheezing was figured out. It is so tricky sometimes to know what to do and when to take them into the doctors, etc. I think asthma is a lot more common then it used to be and I don't think Owen will be that kid in class. Melissa's boy has asthma, she said you can call her if you have any questions.
Oh, and Owen is looking very happy and adorable in that picture. What a cutie.
I'm so glad you have a blog! I was so happy to find it :) The only thing I know about asthma is that my niece, Georgia, had it and eventually grew out of it. Owen is THE cutest!
Sara - I am so sorry. I wish I had any info to give you, but I don't know anything about asthma. I'm sure Adam could help a little. Owen is so stinking adorable! That picture of him is to die for! What a champ.
Aww that is too bad. It is always nice to know things instead of wonder though huh. Jake's dad has asthma and just ran a 10K and he played football in high school. I know he had to be a little careful and have his inhaler. I don't think Owen could have a more contagious smile!
