The promise I had to myself, to not take toddlers and babies to college football games.
We discovered, that with nachos, a cougar tail and a sucker Owen can make it to half time.
After Lewie took a little cat nap on my shoulder he would have been content people watching all day...but Treavor and I were spent and called it after the 2nd quarter.
Don't let Owie's sweet little smirk make you think he loved every second. He was afraid of the drums in the band, cried every time the cannon went off after a touchdown, and asked if all the people could go home.
All in all, We're glad we went.
Also:
Owen's binkies . They're a goner.
For family night we talked about growing up, and changing. We explained that it was time to get rid of his binkies and asked if he was up for that. His reply: "no thank you"
So we talked a little more about how great it is to get old and do new things, and that he would even get some special cars, but that it was time to get rid of them. He was finally persuaded and put them in the garbage.

Both Owen and I shed lots of tears for a few nights. I knew he loved those things (that's why I didn't take them away til he was THREE years old! ) but I was not prepared for this change to turn our world upside down and inside out. I know I'm dramatic, but it has been heart-wrenching to watch him try to fall asleep without something he has had every night of his life! While we would read books he would make the saddest sucking sounds you've ever heard, when we would sing songs he would drink water vigorously, trying to get the same results from the sippy cup, and when I would check on him at night he would be sucking on his fingers like crazy!
I think I've established the fact that I don't easily mesh with change. You'd think I would be able to talk myself out of making binkies a big deal, but I just haven't gotten there.
My mom put it well when she said
"it is the end of a very cute era".

We just got rid of Jo's binki's this weekend! It has been much more difficult than my other two I think because I waited longer. My other kids were done at 18 mos and it was no big deal. I will not wait this long again. It is such a cute era though. I love babies with binkies.
Sad! That story broke my heart. Kassi never suck her fingers or liked a binki. She has a blanket she is attached to. When she goes to bed, or is just tired, she will rub it on her nose and suck on her bottom lip. It is precious. I am so glad it's not a binki or her fingers that can ruin her teeth because it would be so hard to take that away. I hope things get easier for him (and you) soon. :)
I totally teared up reading about the binkies! Winston was way too old to have one...lots of people would tell me so. I had to wait until I felt like I was ready for the change. Luckily Winston did great. He also had a little blankie which helped. I'm nervous for Henry though...I feel like he needs to get rid of it, but I love seeing it be such a comfort to him! Your boys are so cute!
I did the same thing with Redd. Couldn't bring myself to get rid of them - he loved them so much. Way to go Owen! Big step to boyhood.
hey, we just chucked Claire's binky this weekend too! We tried once a few months ago and just like you she and I both shed many bitter tears and we ended up caving and giving it back.
This time though we warned her for several weeks that she was a big girl and it was time to say goodbye. Finally, on Sunday we got a little cup she had painted and I showed her a stack of coins and told her that for every night she went to sleep without a binky, she would get "a money". Once we have a whole bunch of "moneys" we get to go to the store and she can pick out a treat. She loves dropping the little coin in the cup before bed. She asked for her binky once the first night and we reminded her of the moneys and that was it! No tears! It's been 4 nights and she's still going strong. I almost can't believe it has worked.
Hope you and Owie can find a new nighttime groove! I hate change too :(
Too funny! We tried taking Brooklyn to a BYU game when she was just a baby and we had a very similar experience. Haha! Oh, well. That just goes to prove that you are die hard cougar fans!
Way to go on the binki. That is a tough milestone to cross through, but you did it. Yay!
